Arizona Women's Golf Association
80th Annual Meeting Caps the Night in Celebration of Remarkable Women

It was a night to remember – a celebration of 80 years giving exceptional women well-deserved awards. Although it was the closing part of the evening, the presentation of awards was absolutely the most memorable. From the hilarious and creative words the presenters chose to honor the recipients to the accomplishments of the winners, nothing could compare to the women in the spotlight for 2004. The line-up of incredible talent, skill, and spirit demonstrates the caliber of women who make up the AWGA.

Our list of winners this year included:

Tui Selvaratnam - Player of the Year
Barbara Byrnes - Senior Player of the Year
Dr. Anne Pittman - Lifetime Achievement Award
Tina Huiskamp - Special Achievement Award
Judi Lorenzen - Volunteer of the Year
Shirley Staelens - AWGA Representative of the Year
Tubac Golf Resort - Host Club of the Year

Once more, Phoenix Country Club was the hospitable and elegant venue for our Annual Meeting and Awards Dinner. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. The tables were beautifully set with dessert adorning each place before dinner, beckoning people to sit down and enjoy. The servers were quick and attentive to provide our meals, which were superior in both taste and presentation. And the company at each table topped off the amenities by providing congenial interaction with other members -- some old friends and some new acquaintances.

It was a night of business, entertainment, and tributes. It gave each of us the opportunity to know the AWGA just a little better and to become more aware of the many services it provides. Representatives from peer organizations in the golf community including the Arizona Golf Association, Cactus and Pine Golf Course Superintendents Association, Junior Golf Association of Arizona, and Northern Arizona Women’s Golf Associaiton participated in the festivities of the evening, giving their support and affirmation to not only the award winners but also to the ranks of women who comprise the AWGA.

“Congratulations” to our 2004 Award Recipients and a heartfelt “Thank You” to our dedicated and hard-working Board of Directors for hosting this annual event. If the lively spirit of the attendees is a barometer for the success of the event, this year’s will be hard to beat. But – as always – our next celebration will undoubtedly be again unforgettable offering a new group of recipients, presenters, and attendees. The only way to know will be to join us for our next Annual Meeting in January 2006.

The AWGA would like to thank all of its members for a productive and enjoyable year as we look forward to continuing our work as the voice for women’s golf in Arizona.
